Eco-friendly house builders in Hyderabad

ZB EcoTech designs and builds eco-friendly homes on land you own, in and around Hyderabad: earth-block walls, a design that suits the climate, and one team from the soil test to handover.

Here’s what makes a house eco-friendly in Hyderabad, what to ask any builder who calls their work green, and how we build.

What makes a house eco-friendly in Hyderabad

Walls

Walls that aren’t fired in a kiln, made from material found close by. Earth blocks pressed from local soil are one way.

Shade and breeze

Deep verandahs, roof overhangs and windows placed for cross-ventilation, so rooms stay more comfortable through the summer.

The roof

The roof takes the most sun. How it’s shaded and insulated matters as much as the walls.

Water

A sump, an overhead tank and rainwater harvesting, planned with the house rather than added later.

Less waste

Soil dug for the foundations reused in the walls instead of trucked away, and finishes that don’t need repainting every few years.

Questions to ask any eco-friendly builder

  • What are the walls made of, and where is that made?
  • Do the walls carry the house, or is there a concrete frame with eco blocks only as infill?
  • Where do the numbers you quote (strength, carbon, savings) come from?
  • What does the quote include: design, materials, labour and finishes?
  • Who will be on site day to day, and how will I see progress?

How ZB EcoTech builds

  • Earth-block walls: CSEB made by CJ EcoTech Supply, our sister company, often from the soil on your plot.
  • Load-bearing walls with no concrete frame, for simplex, duplex, G+1 and G+2 homes.
  • A raised plinth and good roof overhangs, designed in to protect the walls.
  • A design around your plot and the way the sun moves.
  • Turnkey: design, materials and labour under one contract, with one team from the first visit to handover.

Every number on this site says where it comes from. Strength and carbon numbers are the Auroville Earth Institute’s until our own tests finish.

What we don’t do

  • Homes taller than G+2.
  • Sell land. We build on land you already own.

Where we build

Hyderabad and the areas around it. There’s no extra travel charge anywhere in the areas we cover. For sites beyond them, we quote case by case.

Questions about eco-friendly homes

Is an earth-block house the same as a mud house?

People often call it a mud house, but it’s a modern one: the soil is stabilised with a little cement and pressed, so the walls stand up to the monsoon.Mud house vs concrete house →

Does an eco-friendly house cost more?

Not necessarily. In Auroville, the Auroville Earth Institute found a finished earth-block wall cost 20–25% less than a country-fired brick wall, mainly because it needs no plaster and less mortar. Hyderabad numbers will come from our own work. After a plot visit and a soil test, you get a quote you can compare with others.

How many floors can you build?

We build independent homes up to G+2 with load-bearing earth-block walls.

Do you build farmhouses too?

Yes, farmhouses and weekend homes on your land outside the city.Farmhouse construction →
